That reminds me of the '90's BBC adaptation of Conrad's 'Nostromo', which was filmed somewhere in Africa using actual tribesmen in traditional costume. Unfortunately, the tribesmen refused to take off their Nike trainers, rightly pointing out that their feet would have been cut to ribbons if they did. You can clearly see the footwear in almost all of the battle scenes, since the bright white 'AIR' model was the most fashionable at the time.
