No, actually- part of the creativity comes from reworking old captions into new scenarios and contexts. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but it's always worth trying out, even if it borders upon cliche.
Well said Michael - one of the strengths of this site is its huge back-catalog of great captions, some of which could apply better to new photos than old photos. Whilst I think there ought to be a way to credit the original caption writer, I see no major problem with re-using old captions. I understand those that disagree with me, but they are able to withhold their votes for repeated captions, and act as a disincentive, if they so wish.
I have to say, as the caption writer who has been a member for about one and a half years, I have probably seen this form of caption once. There are many other captions which are repeated on an almost daily basis, but for some reason every so often one particular caption sparks debate over re-using captions. If a caption is re-used it is often because it fits the picture. For some reason there seems to be certain caption.me taboos (eg paws for thought etc..), often only known by longer serving captioneers. I say let the voters decide if the caption is any good for a given picture rather than moaning about repeat captions.
