Appropriately, you're gonna win, but I COULD offer 'a one word tweak' (that I'm sure nobody would mind)...but only if you ask. Either way, congratulations: Great caption!
Hm? You mentioned maybe dropping..."the"? Your call on that, of course. I was thinking you could delete a different word: the word "Dad." They say to "stop talking after the funny part." Otherwise, you'll be "stepping on your punchline." If you delete "Dad", I don't think you lose anything essential (BECAUSE...your carefully-crafted first sentence clarifies - in context - that it's a parent speaking). Thanks for the "invitation to collaborate" on this. I hope you know what I mean, caption writer.
I see what you say however I intentionally used dad as it's a dad joke and the kids are being sarcastic back to their dad (who would be much more likely to tell this crap dad joke). I'm just being explicit in letting the reader know it's the dad asking
This is funny. Originally, I thought the same as Anon, that the "dad" was redundant. I also didn't vote for the caption as it was a joke I'd heard a few times before. But now I know the reason for the inclusion of "dad", and the caption's self awareness, that changes things. Good one, Cap Auth.
I originally had the 'dad' in upper case but thought it was too much to be stressed. Like the kids would say 'two shit ornaments and a clock' pause and then stress 'DAD'. Anyway, thanks for the kind comments and I hope you're all having a fun weekend
