The lyrics sites are pretty divided. I'd always thought it was 'cats' too, until I heard it through a good old amp with great tone and that sounded much more like 'kicks'. To confuse things further, in the performance here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmfudW7rbG0 it almost sounds/looks like 'kids'.
Regardless, the song's going to be wedged in my head for ages now
