I saw a photo with a caption yesterday that made me really laugh - now I can't find it. Is there a way to search?
Yes, use the search box at the top of the page
How do I submit a photo for captioning?
Add your photos using the photos page.
You can click to upload a photo, drag and drop a photo, or copy and paste a photo onto this page.
I struggle to think of captions because the photos aren't suitable. Is there any way to help improve the selection of photos?
You can help by photo voting to sort the wheat from the chaff.
How are the upvotes/downvotes weighted? It seems strange that a photo which has 3 upvotes and 1 downvote would have lower priority than an image with just 1 upvote. There are many good images low in the list just because of one or two downvotes.
The rank of a caption or photo is calculated as ( votesUp - votesDown ) / squareroot( votesUp + votesDown )
Dividing by the total number of votes ensures that, for instance, a photo with 1 upvote + 2 downvotes should be scored equivalently to a photo with 10 upvotes + 20 downvotes. The squareroot ensures that a photo with more votes is ranked more highly than one with less votes (as the more votes, the more accurate the result).
Can you do well in the caption contest without submitting photos, or is this a mandatory feature.
You can win the contest whether or not you submit photos. It’s not mandatory in any way to submit photos
Do captioneers submit photos they have taken or do they buy them from photo stalk, and do they gain more scores for having submitted a selected photo, and how much
Submitting photos doesn’t affect your caption scores.
And you can submit photos from anywhere you like - although please be respectful of privacy and copyright.
