'Topped himself has been done twice at 11:29 and 11:30, but the hundreds and thousands idea on its own is actually better. What about something like 'The witnesses were in the hundreds and thousands', but, you know, better than that example.

There was a caption saying he topped himself, and a separate one mentioning the culprit getting away with hundreds and thousands.I voted for this - I didn't think it was a direct copy as it puts two solid but separate ideas together and makes them both better.
I must doff my cap to the late great Tommy Cooper for this one. :)
As soon as this pic came up it was always going to be a race to who would use the topping himself gag first.
