Let me chime in: I think "the dog is food" premise is open to endless, creative variations...such as this caption. It's like can there be many jokes on the topic of Trump being ignorant, right? I sure hope so. Apparently, the New Yorker caption contest can receive hundreds of captions with the same point, but only one wins. In short, you've got MY vote...'cause I like it!
This is not the New Yorker which receives thousands of unseen entries for one cartoon per week. There are between 30 and 40 regulars on here approx. every week who see each others' captions as they appear. Most people are aware that if something is contained in a photo then it is fair game to be mentioned in multiple captions. If it is not in the photo (in this case there's only a kid and dog, there's no meal or food) and someone has already used the idea, think of another caption or if you're convinced it has a different enough twist on the same theme then 'nod' to the other entry. A 'see' comment is not telling someone to remove his/her caption but drawing attention to the original one, in the absence of a nod, as people tend to vote as they move down the page.
I will give a nod gladly if another caption gave me the idea for mine. Or if I thought it was too similar I wouldn't add it. I just get fed up with people pointing out things that don't need pointing out.
