Ummm ... it's not. That was the joke (or at least it was meant to be). It never entered my mind that anybody could think I was suggesting it is actually fun.
I've edited it to try not to cause offence. Let me know if you still find it offensive and I'll erase it.
I’m pretty sure I'm autistic (certainly all the tests I've ever taken indicate that I am) and I'm not offended by this joke. Because it's a joke, not a literal statement.
Obviously we have to consider on a case-by-case basis, but I don't want people treading on eggshells to avoid offence here on caption.me.
Thanks Chris. My wife firmly believes I have Asperger's, and I can't disagree that I have many autistic traits. As such I honestly didn't think twice when writing this caption, but I do come from a culture that generally doesn't take itself too seriously. Anyway, the caption looks like a dog, so I'm more than happy to erase it if it still offends anyone
Oh God, no I haven't Chris, but I'm going to have to now Result pending...
33/50 (the low end of significant autistic traits)
I found that a lot of the social interaction questions referred to things that I have learnt how to become capable of, rather than come naturally. But that was an interesting test.
I apologise to the original poster if I have misread the tone of your caption. Today I helped a wonderful young lady who has asperger's syndrome close her self-employed business. Not because she couldn't interact with her customers - they loved her because nothing was too much trouble for her and she would go above and beyond - but because of the people who surrounded her business. The people who ostracised her, took advantage of her and most certainly tormented her to the point of depression that she felt she could no longer carry on with her business. She did nothing to them, only kept herself to herself because that is who she is and didn't join in with the social chitchat. As I walked out of the building with her today one of her chief tormentors could be heard saying that if she saw her in the street she would run her over. Her tormentors scapegoated her and had their fun. I'm also sorry to bring such a sad tone to this site with this message as I do believe it is a fun site. And again I apologise to the original poster but today it touched a fresh raw nerve with me and I hope you understand where I was coming from.
''there are some really awful people I'm afraid, who completely lack empathy and are narcissistic and focus only on their own needs without a care for others.''
OK, you've made your point. I'll increase my voting output.
I hate to point this out but from that situation, the tormentors do care for others - the others in their self-assigned group.
It's a shame that things have culminated to that effect and that lady's business has gone to pot at the hands it would seem by people who feel threatened by her. I guess that they have decidedly lashed out at her to stamp out any progress she appears to have made. It appears they don't like the prospect of competition, so I would guess need to bring this lady to a comfortable level that they have chosen as her placing so they can feel more secure in themselves. Whether these tormentors are the primary factor in this lady's business venture failing is something I can't speculate on as I don't know the full situation.
One thing I do find with identity politics a lot of the time is that people seem to be pigeonholed as their condition, sexuality, identity etc first without considering the wider contexts of that person as a human being. There's detail but in one way depersonalisation as well. Btw, I understand in the context of revealing this information you were providing detail without obviously pinpointing who said individuals are in real life to respect privacy.
Yes, with identity politics etc these things are maybe a part of a person whether that person considers said identity to be a part of themselves and they have the right to chose whether they are identified as such or not.
It's funny how no identity politics were applied to the tormentors although I guess that they could be categorised similarly. I'm not being funny but I do find that when people refer to tormentors as such they usually gloss over detail - it's probably from one show of lack of empathy on their part another happens and the cycle continues. People usually shy away from negativity as survival instinct but it's still part of human nature.
I do find that folk can get defensive on both sides of the equation when it comes to identity politics, divisions rear their ugly head once more.
Making fun of who someone is can be a sign of respect. You're acknowledging some of their character traits and adding detail to their personality.
However if all you can do is stagnantly point out one thing again and again, that's when it becomes a dead label rather than someone who is complex, organic and most of all, alive!
Hey! Btw, increased voting output is nothing to do with altruism.
Knowing that I give out so many votes appeals to my narcissism. I also lack empathy which is why I don't expect anything in return, in the sense of me giving votes purely to get votes otherwise I'd empathise that as other people are getting a ton of votes then that means I deserve a load too.
I find this caption offensive. Why is it fun to torment someone who has Asperger's syndrome??

Many good jokes are offensive if taken literally.

Please don't erase it.
Out of interest, have you taken the AQ (Autism Spectrum Quotient) test developed by Simon Baron-Cohen? I scored 37/50 ("significant autistic traits")
