Is "Anti-Gravitea" a duplicate of "Auntie Gravitea"?
When do two captions become similar enough for the later one to be considered a duplicate of the earlier one? And would the first use of "tea" to replace "ty" or "tie" mean no-one else could use that word replacement?
I think that the fact that 'Anti-Gravitea' sounds exactly like 'Auntie Gravitea' (well, it does where I come from) is an indicator that it's close enough to be a duplicate. If we don't find some way of identifying and fixing this problem, then there's no stopping an unscrupulous person from copying existing captions that have no votes yet, adding hyphens or mis-spellings, and then getting their friends and family to vote for the copy. The time-stamp on the caption always lets the potential voter know which one to vote for. Accidents happen of course, and we've all posted captions that turned out to have been done, but the difference is in changing or deleting your caption because you didn't see it, and intentionally stealing votes from the original poster. Quite a difference, I think.
The fact is there's getting to be too many captions. This site is suffering from its own success, maybe there should be a maximum of two captions/person/picture regardless of number of votes in previous week.
Regarding too many captions, maybe the font size and 'block' of each caption should be smaller, so that they can be fitted onto a single page. I'm not a web designer so I don't know the proper names of each element, but I can imagine that an internal caption section that can be scrolled separately from the 'framing' page could be searched as a single page, making the search for potential dupes easier.
I'm not sure if any of that makes sense, of if I can explain it any better, sorry.
Tea-leaf, please see 11.01am - Alternatively just mug me off and vote for this one.

You all need to go to specsavers! This caption's been done already, scroll down people and vote for the rightful owner of the caption please:)

I can see how frustrating duplicate captions are. Two technical solutions are coming soon, folks.
Automatic dupe detection and warning (nearly finished) and caption tagging so dupes can be marked by captioneers.
Please bear with me.. I've handed in my notice at my day job and will have two weeks off in October to work on caption.me before I start my new job.
