Merriam-Webster - the usually humorous use of a word in such a way as to suggest two or more of its meanings or the meaning of another word similar in sound.
Collins - a clever and amusing use of a word or phrase with two meanings, or of words with the same sound but different meanings.
Without dissecting the joke to pieces, I think the first description of "pun" in both definitions fits "Caesar salad" pretty well.
Damn you, sir. it's not a pun, and I'd quite happily fight you to the death about it. But not tonight, I'm a bit knackered. Maybe next Thursday. What do Merriam-Bloody-Webster or Collins know about anything?
Love that this had a narrative quality, which raised it above the average stand-alone pun. It didn't hurt that it was also very clever. Well done, Steve.
Thank you so much everyone for your kind words. There were so many great captions this month I feel very fortunate this did so well. Wishing you all a Happy New Year, health and inspired captioning.
I'm back after a Brutal four days without internet, and yes it's still a great pun and/or play on words, great caption and well deserved win. I wonder how missed this, sorry about that.
I don't usually vote for stand alone puns, but this one is very clever.

He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy.
It's not a pun. It's just a very clever caption. So you're excused, James Lennox. And so am I, as I voted for it, too.
Seize a salad / Sees a salad are puns.

A couple of definitions of "pun":

Collins - a clever and amusing use of a word or phrase with two meanings, or of words with the same sound but different meanings.

If you look at the bottom, you'll see it's a scissors salad as well.
(*So ends the second rewriting of the comment that somehow got posted three times. And no, I don't have tremors.)

Et tu, Stephen? Congrats on one of the top-scoring double entendres of the year.
