After the disturbing nightmare Beryl had had about her husband, she was already on the very edge of hysteria as she entered the forbiddingly, steamy kitchen.
Straight away her eyes noted the excessive red staining on the linen tablecloth, discarded kitchen cleaver and even on the wooden flooring beneath the table. To her right she also saw three smeared handprints and a serrated knife on the worktop.
With great caution she approached the two large saucepans bubbling on the Aga cooker. The smell they emitted was foul and pungent to her senses and she could feel the bile beginning to rise in her throat. With deepening fear she outstretched an arm and shakily grasped the saucepan lid and with trembling hand she slowly lifted. She felt the hairs on the back of her neck rise as her morbid fears were instantly confirmed.
Although knowing full well she was allergic, Neville had cooked fricking beetroot again. [Ron Allan]
It's been nominated for the Cooker Prize.

Hope it wins that prize. It's certainly the War & Peace of captions.

Haha. If I didn't think it was a decent caption I wouldn't have mentioned it, but punctuation matters to me, and I think even a small error can reduce a caption's chances of receiving the votes it deserves. More recently I've tried to ignore grammatical errors/typos and rarely point them out for fear of causing offence. We all have our own ideas as to what makes a caption vote-worthy. Not everyone will agree with me but this is one of mine.

Never ending, perhaps, but Grammar Police is a noble calling, ever vigilant, standing tall, scouring the web to keep it safe from the ever present danger of language decay. Under the dome of their protection we entrust our future, think of the children!
* Just found my comment post on "Perhaps voting habits have changed.. " I had "of" changed instead of "have" .. yet Karyn up-voted it without spotting the egregious grammatical error. Ever vigilant, Karyn, EVER Vigilant.
