Hi Glyn, I suppose there is a bit of humour in this caption but at the time of writing it I wasn't sure people would want to be reminded just how sad the situation is on a Sunday morning. At least the occasional piece of polystyrene does rescue people and their dogs from drowning. If only all plastic bags were made from edible sources such as algae, banana skins, mushrooms, yeast (from beer production) etc - all these and more have been produced commercially and are so much better than biodegradable plastics which can just add to the microplastic problem. Even more frustrating is that governments could easily place heavy taxes on non-edible plastic bags and use the money raised to subsidize their production from edible sources.

Hi Caption Author, don't knock yourself, at the end of the day either folk will find a caption funny or they won't. They can skim over or ignore it if they don't like the subject matter. I do think in regards to humour sometimes people gravitate away from negativity or "serious" issues because they're associated as being as so however some comedians are brilliant at navigating such issues whilst still being funny. Sometimes they can fall flat though, it's finding the right balance.

I believe one of the main reasons for such heavy ocean pollution is because people are compensating for the ice caps so to pretend they're still going to be there they've decided to replace them with the bottle caps.

It'll be interesting to see what the future holds for the planet and us, but until then I'm just going to wait to see how the planet reacts. The planet can save itself and can eject or eliminate us at any time. Look at the dinosaurs.
